To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he has any plans to meet the general secretary of the Trades Union Congress to discuss the training allowance payable to trainees on the new unified training programme; and if he will make a statement.

No. As announced in the recent White Paper "Training for Employment", the training allowances to he paid to trainees on the new employment training programme will be those unanimously recommended by the Manpower Services Commission, which includes three commissioners nominated by the Trades Union Congress.
