HC Deb 29 March 1988 vol 130 c412W
Mr. Ashley

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what information he has as to the cause of the increase in 1985 in the number of service people invalided out of the forces following an accident.

Mr. Freeman

There was no prominent cause for the increase in the number of cases invalided from the services in 1985 other than injuries sustained during sporting activities and falls and so on. The corresponding figure for 1986 is now available and is 169, showing a slight decrease.

Mr. Ashley

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his replies of 10 March 1987Official Report, columns 173–74, to the right hon. Member for Stoke-on-Trent, South, how many of those service men who (a) were invalided out and (b) died, were involved in accidents or misadventures of such a nature that disciplinary action was taken after an inquiry.

Mr. Freeman

I regret that records are not kept in a way that would enable the information to be provided without disproportionate cost.
