To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services, pursuant to the answer of 18 March,Official Report, column 712, whether the drug Ritalin is still available on National Health Service prescription from general practitioners as a treatment for narcolepsy.

Mr. Newton

No. Ritalin is no longer licensed under the Medicines Act and has been withdrawn from the market. However, I understand that it is available direct from the manufacturer at the request of a doctor in respect of an individual patient.
