HC Deb 29 March 1988 vol 130 cc456-7W
Mr. Henderson

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what information he has as to which rail lines are currently subject to particular overcrowding.

Mr. David Mitchell

I monitor carefully the performance of lines in those sectors for which loading standards have been agreed. The Government have approved record levels of investment on infrastructure and rolling stock to enable the board to relieve congestion and meet these quality standards. In addition, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport announced on 25 March a joint study with LRT and BR to develop a strategy to cater for projected growth in demand for rail services in central London.
