HC Deb 29 March 1988 vol 130 c456W
Mr. McTaggart

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he has any plans to introduce mandatory health checks on heavy goods vehicle and public service vehicle drivers over the age of 50 years, especially those in high risk categories.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Proposals have recently been presented for drivers of heavy goods vehicles to have medical checks every five years from the age of 45 and annually from 65. This is in line with the present requirements for drivers of public service vehicles. We are now considering the results of public consultation on this issue.
