To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what contribution his Department has made to the European Year of the Environment.

My Department made a contribution of £30,000 in support of the work of the EYE Scottish sub-committee. The secretariat of the subcommittee was provided by the Countryside Commission for Scotland. In addition, EYE activity in Scotland attracted financial support from the Countryside Commission for Scotland under its normal grant scheme arrangements, and a further sum of £50,000 was allocated from the United Kingdom EYE fund.
