HC Deb 28 March 1988 vol 130 c310W
Mr. Goodlad

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what estimate he has of the proceeds of sale of mental hospital sites in Northern Ireland in each of the next seven years.

Dr. Mawhinney

There are no plans to close any of the major psychiatric or mental handicap hospitals in Northern Ireland in the foreseeable future. As a result, the disposal of property will depend on whether it is possible to rationalise services on the existing sites in order to free specific areas for sale. Accurate estimates of the extent of such sales cannot therefore be made at this stage.
