To ask the Secretary of State for Defence who sat on the full medical board in the case of Captain Fred Holroyd (retired) on 1 July 1975; and if he was informed of its conclusions.

It is not my Department's policy to name individual officers acting in any particular case.

Captain Holroyd (retired) was informed of the findings of the full medical board which sat on 1 July 1975.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence on what date in June 1975 the special confidential report on Captain Fred Holroyd (retired) was written who wrote it and whether Captain Fred Holroyd (retired) was informed of its findings.

Mr. Freeman

The special confidential report was initiated by Captain Holroyd's commanding officer on 5 June 1975. Captain Holroyd was subsequently informed of its findings.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) on what date in 1982 assistance was given by his Department to the Royal Ulster Constabulary inquiry into the allegations of Captain Fred Holroyd (retired);

(2) what was the nature and scope of the assistance given by his Department to the Royal Ulster Constabulary inquiry in 1982 into the allegations of Captain Fred Holroyd (retired).

The Ministry of Defence responded appropriately on various dates to inquiries and requests for assistance from the Royal Ulster Constabulary.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence under what Army regulations the special investigation branch of the Royal Military Police carried out their investigations into the allegations of Captain Fred Holroyd (retired).

Assistance to civil police forces is given in accordance with Queen's Regulations for the Army and the Provost Manual.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if, pursuant to the answer of the 29 February,Official Report, column 422, the full Army medical board held on 1 July 1975 formally sat as a result of consideration given to the special confidential report written in June 1975.

No. The full Army medical board proceedings were entirely separate from the special confidential report.
