HC Deb 25 March 1988 vol 130 c267W
Mr. Ashley

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when the traffic flow was last measured on the A50 in Stoke-on-Trent, South; what was the number of vehicles counted on a 12-hour weekday; what was the corresponding heavy commercial vehicle count; and which major roads passing through urban areas in the west midlands have a higher traffic count.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The latest count was taken on the A50/A520 (Meir) junction in October 1987. The average weekday 12-hour flow was 23,900 vehicles of which some 19 per cent. were heavy vehicles.

Many roads through urban areas in the west midlands have a higher traffic count. In addition to the motorways, lengths of A34, A38(M), A41, A45, A435, A449, A456 and A457 within the west midlands conurbation all carry higher volumes.
