§ Mr. LewisTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment what will be the position of community programme participants who decline an offer of continuing beyond September 1988 on the new unified training scheme.
§ Mr. NichollsAll community programme participants joining from the end of February are guaranteed six months on that programme. Most community programme participants who have not obtained a job will recognise the value of the new employment training programme, and will wish to transfer either at the end of their time on community programme or from 5 September, the start date of the new programme. Benefit sanctions will not be imposed on those participants who choose not to transfer at the end of their six months on community programme.
