HC Deb 23 March 1988 vol 130 cc165-6W
Mr. Beggs

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many residents are presently cared for in residential homes controlled by the Department of Health and Social Services in East Antrim; and how this compares with the number of residents accommodated during 1985–86 and 1986–87.

Mr. Needham

Information is not available in the precise form requested since no residential home is controlled by the Department of Health and Social Services. Responsibility for registration and inspection of private residential homes rest with health and social services boards.

In the Lame, Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey unit of management, on 31 December 1986, the latest date for which figures are available, 51 residents were cared for in voluntary and private residential accommodation registered with the Northern Health and Social Services Board. For the year ended 31 December 1985 the total number of residents in such homes was 52.
