HC Deb 23 March 1988 vol 130 c160W
Mr. Meale

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services why there has been a delay in respect of a settlement of benefit entitlement for the late Mr. Ronald Davidson of 5, Enderby crescent, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, who died of asbestosis.

Mr. Portillo

[holding answer 17 March 1988]: There were delays at various stages, which I regret. They were largely occasioned by the need to obtain further medical evidence. The hon. Member has written to me about this and I will reply to him in more detail. I understand that the doctors at the medical boarding centre (respiratory diseases) in Sheffield have now reached a conclusion and Mrs. Davidson's claim for benefit will shortly be determined.
