HC Deb 23 March 1988 vol 130 c167W
Sir John Biggs-Davison

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement about the present position in Northern Ireland in the light of proposals regarding dog licensing in Great Britain; and what proposals he has had for parity of legislation.

Mr. Needham

The Department of Agriculture has monitored the operation of the Dogs (Northern Ireland) Order 1983 since it came into force. The order was aimed at encouraging responsible dog ownership, reducing the stray dog population and ensuring the effective licensing and control of dogs and it has been well received. There are no proposals for parity of legislation.
