§ Mr. David PorterTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what recent representations he has had from Suffolk and Norfolk on roads; what responses he has given; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyMy right hon. Friend receives a wide variety of representations both in the context of the statutory procedures for trunk road proposals and otherwise.
There have been continuing representations from various sources seeking improvements to the trunk road network in East Anglia and in particular that the A11-A47 route between M11 and Great Yarmouth should be dualled throughout. Our positive response to this is demonstrated by the 30 schemes in various stages of preparation valued at £177 million for the three East Anglian counties (including Cambridgeshire). Fifteen schemes currently in the planning process or recently completed, and valued at £130 million for the A11-A47 mean some three quarters of that route will be dual carriageway by the early 1990s. Further improvements will be considered as candidates for the programme when they can be justified, subject to the availability of resources.
