89. Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the outcome and cost of Exercise Fire Focus.

132. Mr. Butler

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the outcome of the United Kingdom military manoeuvres around the Falkland Islands.

Mr. Ian Stewart

Exercise Fire Focus, designated to practise the reinforcement of the Falkland Islands, is still in progress, and it would be premature to comment on its outcome. The costs of the exercise (excluding those which would have been incurred had the exercise not been taking place) are estimated to be about £3 million, most of which is attributable to airlift costs.
