To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his answers to the hon. Members for Leyton (Mr. Cohen) and Linlithgow (Mr. Dalyell) on 15 March,Official Report, column 526, what was the direction of the flight path of the Hercules aircraft which took off from Carrasco airport on 10 March immediately after its take off; and what was the outcome of contact between it and aircraft of the Argentine air force.

The Hercules C-130 which made an emergency diversion to Carrasco in Uruguay on 9 March, proceeded directly on leaving Carrasco, to Ascension Island. At no time did the aircraft come into contact with aircraft of the Argentine Air Force.
