§ Mr. George HowarthTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the current provision made for young people to undertake part-time study whilst they are on a YTS programme.
§ Mr. CopeAll YTS training programmes must include a minimum period of planned and directed learning away from the normal workplace and outside the day-to-day pressures of a job. Any study which is of direct relevance to a training programme may therefore be considered for inclusion as part of such "off-the-job" training. Trainees are also free to pursue additional studies outside YTS, and managing agents are encouraged to offer support by allowing time off to study and sit for examinations which would contribute to the training programme.
