HC Deb 21 March 1988 vol 130 c32W
Mr. John Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services which companies tendered for the supply of a computerised radiology system for the Queens medical centre, Nottingham; which system was requested by the medical staff at the centre; on what basis the contract was awarded to Datamed; what operational experience the Datamed system had; what assessment was made of the ability of HM Systems to provide the service; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Currie

The following companies tendered for the supply of the Queens medical centre radiology system:

  • Datamed
  • AJR Systems (now HM Systems)
  • Guardian
  • SIFO

I understand that the medical staff at the centre were fully consulted during the procurement process and were satisfied with the decision to proceed with the successful company. The Datamed system was selected on the basis that, while a new development, the operating system it employed was compatible with other computing developments within the region and the company offered comprehensive support arrangements. The solution proposed by HM Systems was considered against the same criteria as those for Datamed.

I further understand that a number of districts within the Trent region are now using the Datamed system, and several others are considering its use.
