§ Mr. WigleyTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what recent representations he has received about progress in investigating allegations of experiments on prisoners of war held by the Japanese at Mukden and elsewhere during world war 2; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. FreemanI refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave him on 22 April 1987 at column586. Since that date, the Ministry has received a further 16 inquiries. Of these two had been addressed to the Prime Minister and 14 to Ministers. During this period our inquiries have continued. But despite further and lengthy investigation we still have no proof that the Japanese experimented on Allied prisoners of war held at Mukden.
