HC Deb 21 March 1988 vol 130 c29W
Sir Raymond Gower

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what special arrangements have been made for the treatment of persons suffering from AIDS; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Grist

In December 1985 all district health authorities were encouraged to establish AIDS coordinating teams to ensure the proper management of the response to AIDS in their areas, and to ensure that treatment and care facilities were available for those who needed them. In May 1987 district health authorities were asked to prepare district operational plans on AIDS. Planning guidelines were published which contained advice on the arrangements for the treatment of AIDS sufferers including the need to consider the provision of facilities for treatment in hospital and in the community. The Welsh Office has responded to draft plans received from all authorities. Final plans are due to be submitted by 1 April 1988.
