HC Deb 18 March 1988 vol 129 cc711-2W
Mr. Battle

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will detail proposed changes to the licences of natural medical practitioners;

(2) if he has received representations concerning the proposed changes in regulating licensed natural medical practitioners; and if he will make a statement;

(3) how many licensed natural medical practitioners have been licensed to practise in England, by regional health authority, in each of the past eight years.

Mr. Newton

Medical treatment provided under the National Health Service must he given or prescribed by a practitioner registered by the General Medical Council. Practitioners of alternative therapies who are not registered with that council are free to offer their services privately subject to the appropriate provisions of statute and common law and the Department does not collect information on them.
