HC Deb 17 March 1988 vol 129 cc682-3W
Mr. Roy Hughes

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what provisions the Government have adopted for a confirmed scientific source for radiation safety levels in sheep.

Mr. Donald Thompson

[holding answer 16 March 1988]: In setting the limit of 1,000Bq/kg, the Government took account of the published advice of the National Radiological Protection Board in the United Kingdom and of the interim guidance issued by the group of international experts set up under article 31 of the Euratom treaty. The Government also had to take note of the views of other countries with whom it was important for the United Kingdom to protect trading links.
