To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, pursuant to his reply of 8 March,Official Report, column 111, he will give details of the number of prisoners currently held in the remand wing of Lincoln prison; if he will give the number of urinals and water closets normally available and in use, and presently available and in use in Lincoln prison; if he will give details of the arrangements presently in operation for prisoners on remand in Lincoln prison to use urinals and water closets; and if he will make a statement.

On 15 March 1988, a total of 103 prisoners were in the remand wing of Lincoln prison. Prior to the commencement of the present refurbishment work on the toilet facilities in Lincoln prison there were 16 urinals and 31 water closets available and in use by prisoners (four urinals and eight water closets being situated in the remand wing). As a result of the refurbishment so far completed there are 28 urinals and 34 water closets available and in use (two urinals and four water closets being in the remand wing). Refurbishment of toilet facilities is in progress on two floors of the remand wing and, while this work continues, prisoners from these floors will use the facilities available on the other two floors of the remand wing and in the adjacent B wing.
