HC Deb 16 March 1988 vol 129 cc606-7W
72. Mr. Andrew Hargreaves

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his Department's budget in the next financial year for urban initiatives.

Mr. Trippier

Planned expenditure in 1988–89 on my Department's urban group of programmes totals £593 million. The group includes urban development grant and urban regeneration grant (to be replaced from 2 May by city grant), the urban development corporations, derelict land grant (part of which will be incorporated in city grant) and the urban programme. Provision has also been made for £140 million additional resources for local authorities' estate action schemes, and for £5 million spending by housing action trusts. The level of provision for the urban group, estate action and housing action trusts combined is £120 million higher than in 1987–88.
