HC Deb 16 March 1988 vol 129 cc572-3W
Sir Eldon Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what studies he has made of recent developments in polyester security glazing film; and if he intends to encourage the use of this form of window protection for police cars and police stations.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Two studies of the resistance of various types of glazing, with and without the addition of polyester film, were conducted in 1986 and their findings were made available to chief constables. Further related work is now in progress.

Since 1977 the Home Office has recommended that wherever necessary windows in new police stations should be shatter-proof or protected by film.
