To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will outline his Department's policies to safeguard the future of Hampstead heath.

Mr. Chope

The London residuary body will shortly be making recommendations to my right hon. Friend as to the future ownership and management of the heath. In accordance with undertakings given during the passage of the Local Government Act 1985, my right hon. Friend's policy is to ensure that Hampstead heath is managed as an entity.
