HC Deb 14 March 1988 vol 129 c456W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what proposals he has to alter the public inquiry system into major planning schemes; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

The Government's response to the fifth report, Session 1985–86, from the Environment Committee, "Planning: Appeals, Call-in and Major Public Inquiries: CM43", contained proposals for revised rules of procedure at public inquiries, and for a new code of practice on preparing for major inquiries. Following consultations with the Council on Tribunals and a wide range of other organisations, we expect shortly to submit the revised rules to the Lord Chancellor for making, and to bring the new code of practice into operation.
