To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what has been the percentage change in the United Kingdom consumption per head of butter and other edible oils and fats, respectively, since 1972.

Estimates based on the national food survey data indicate that household consumption per head of butter in the United Kingdom fell by 55 per cent. between 1972 and 1987. Over the same period per capita consumption of edible oils and fats increased by 25 per cent.
