HC Deb 14 March 1988 vol 129 c482W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what plans he has to change the public inquiry system concerning major road schemes proposed by his Department; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

We are satisfied that for the vast majority of road proposals the present inquiry system works well. The procedures continue to be kept under review and all suggestions for change are given careful consideration.

The Government's concern to safeguard the rights of those affected limits the scope for change.
