§ 17. Mr. Simon CoombsTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is the cost of replacing the central barriers on the M4 between London and Bristol, junctions 1 to 20; and what is his estimate of the date of completion of this work.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyWork on the M4 commenced in 1982 and the Department is continuing to replace or upgrade all safety fencing to modern-day standards. The work is estimated to cost some £6 million and to be completed by 1990.
Work currently in hand is at junctions 2 and 4 and between junctions 14 and 15. It should be completed by mid May.
Works planned for this year include junctions 10 to 12 and 6 km between junctions 16 and 18 as part of the major maintenance scheme.
