HC Deb 14 March 1988 vol 129 c475W
17. Mr. Simon Coombs

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is the cost of replacing the central barriers on the M4 between London and Bristol, junctions 1 to 20; and what is his estimate of the date of completion of this work.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Work on the M4 commenced in 1982 and the Department is continuing to replace or upgrade all safety fencing to modern-day standards. The work is estimated to cost some £6 million and to be completed by 1990.

Work currently in hand is at junctions 2 and 4 and between junctions 14 and 15. It should be completed by mid May.

Works planned for this year include junctions 10 to 12 and 6 km between junctions 16 and 18 as part of the major maintenance scheme.
