HC Deb 14 March 1988 vol 129 c451W
Mr. Hardy

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what is the number of people employed in the public sector of the electricity supply industry.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The average number of people employed in the electricity supply industry in England and Wales during 1986–87 (the latest year for which figures are available) was 132,000.

Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if, during preparation of the proposals for privatisation of the electricity supply industry, any estimate has been made by his Department of (i) the present value of Connah's Quay power station and (ii) the cost of refurbishing it to produce power while meeting current environmental standards; and if he will make a statement on the policy he will require the Central Electricity Generating Board to adopt towards the disposal of redundant power stations prior to privatisation.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The value of individual power stations and the cost of refurbishment are matters for the CEGB.
