HC Deb 14 March 1988 vol 129 c427W
Mr. Faulds

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment Her Majesty's Government made, in deciding on their policy of giving aid for the whole of Cyprus on a Government to Government basis, of the degree of control exercised by Greek Cypriot Government over northern Cyprus and the extent to which it has a mandate to act on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot population.

Mr. Chris Patten

We recognise only one Republic of Cyprus. However, as far as education and training awards of benefit to the Turkish community are concerned, the British Council deals directly with the Turkish Cypriot authorities in the educational field.
