HC Deb 14 March 1988 vol 129 cc417-8W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is Her Majesty's Government's policy towards dealing with the removal of disparities in the conventional forces of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and the Warsaw pact in separate arms control negotiations, before any agreement has been reached on the elimination of chemical weapons.

Mr. Mellor

Our policy in the conventional arms control field was set out in the statement issued at the NATO summit on 2 March, a copy of which has been placed in the Library of the House. Negotiations on the global elimination of chemical weapons are being pursued separately at the conference on disarmament in Geneva. They have made progress, but many complex issues remain to be resolved.
