HC Deb 11 March 1988 vol 129 c366W
Sir Barney Hayhoe

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his latest estimated outturn for expenditure on the National Health Service in 1987–88; what increase is planned for 1988–89; and what change this represents over that indicated in the Autumn Statement 1987 and the public expenditure White Paper (Cm. 288–1).

Mr. Lawson

I holding answer 4 March 1988]: The estimated outturn for expenditure on the NHS in the United Kingdom in 1987–88 contained in the public expenditure White Paper was £20,569 million. However, this did not include the additional £102 million in health authorities' cash limits announced on 16 December. Expenditure in 1988–89 is planned to rise to £21,818 million, an increase of £1,147 million or 5.5 per cent. over 1987–88 when the additional £102 million for this financial year is taken into account. Revised estimates of the 1987–88 outturn for voted expenditure will be published in the main Estimates on Budget day.
