§ Mr. McTaggartTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his estimate of the number of people who are homeless in Scotland as a result of mortgage default; and what was this figure in 1983.
§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonThe number of people homeless as a result of mortgage default is not held centrally. The number of applicant households, considered by local authorities to be homeless, who quoted a court order for mortgage default as the reason for their application so far recorded for 1986–87 is about 300. This category was not separately identified prior to March 1984.
