HC Deb 11 March 1988 vol 129 c383W
Mr. McTaggart

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his estimate of the number of people who are homeless in Scotland as a result of mortgage default; and what was this figure in 1983.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The number of people homeless as a result of mortgage default is not held centrally. The number of applicant households, considered by local authorities to be homeless, who quoted a court order for mortgage default as the reason for their application so far recorded for 1986–87 is about 300. This category was not separately identified prior to March 1984.
