To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps are being taken to protect visitors to Greenwich park from skateboarders.

Mr. Moynihan

The Royal parks constabulary has been directed to give special attention to this matter and to take action against any use of skateboards which is likely to affect the comfort or safety of park users.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many accidents have taken place as a result of the use of skateboards in Greenwich park during each of the past 10 years for which figures are available.

The figures are as follows. Between 1977 and 1985 a special skateboarding area was provided in Greenwich park.
