§ Mr. Chris PattenThe information in the table covers contributions from the aid programme to United Nations development agencies, international financial institutions, the European Community and Commonwealth aid programmes defined as follows:

- i. Agencies where automatic subscription payments follow from agreed administrative budgets (for example the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and most aid paid from the European Community budget);
- ii. Agencies where subscription or contribution payments follow negotiated increases in capital or soft fund resources (for example the multilateral development banks, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the European Development Funds and the European Community's aid programme towards the Mediterranean states);
- iii. Agencies to which we contribute on a purely voluntary basis, year by year, (for example the United Nations Children's Fund, the United Nations Development Programme and the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation).
