HC Deb 09 March 1988 vol 129 c260W
Mr. David Davis

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the average and total change in running costs for hospitals where old hospitals have been replaced by newly built hospitals providing an equivalent or near-equivalent service; and what is the total capital invested in this group of hospitals since 1979.

Mrs. Currie

Since 1979 about 250 hospital building schemes each costing £1 million have been completed at a total cost of nearly £1.5 billion. I regret that comparative information linking running costs and activity data by hospitals of different ages is not available.
