The following table gives the number of full-time equivalent civilian staff, excluding casual staff, employed on 1 January for 1979, 1980 and 1988 in each economic planning region of England, separating London from the rest of the south-east in 1980 and 1988, in Scotland, Wales and Ireland, and overseas and at sea.
