HC Deb 08 March 1988 vol 129 c145W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many extra police officer posts will be created during the financial years 1988–89 and 1989–90 in Scotland.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

This will depend on decisions taken by police authorities in the first instance. However, the assumptions regarding police manpower growth in these years underlying the Government's public expenditure plans were outlined in the recently published "Scottish Commentary," a copy of which is in the Library.

These plans provide for police strength to increase to 13,830 by the end of 1988–89 and to 13,880 by the end of 1989–90.
