HC Deb 04 March 1988 vol 128 c742W
Mr. Harry Ewing

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what consultations took place on the decision to ban the sale and export of Skoal Bandits.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The Government have announced that they are proposing to prohibit the supply of certain types of oral tobacco product, but in accordance with the requirements of the Consumer Protection Act 1987, under which the regulations would be made, are first consulting those whose interests would appear to be substantially affected by the proposal. Those consulted have been given to 26 May to make representations. Only after those representations have been received and considered will the Government decide their course of action.
