HC Deb 04 March 1988 vol 128 cc729-30W
Mr. Boyes

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the nature of all crashes involving Royal Air Force Shackleton aircraft since 1968; if he will indicate in each case if the aircraft was on anti-submarine patrol; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Freeman

Since 1968, there have been only two major accidents to Royal Air Force Shackleton aircraft. On 1 April 1968, an aircraft crashed on landing at RAF Ballykelly after a routine training sortie. On 19 April 1968, another Shackleton from RAF Ballykelly flew into the ground in Northern Ireland during an anti-submarine exercise.
