HL Deb 04 March 1988 vol 494 c419WA
Lord Mayhew

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have any plans to promote the direct teaching of English in the Francophone countries of North Africa, and if so, at what cost.

The Minister of State for Defence Procurement (Lord Trefgarne)

The British Council already teaches English to fee-paying students in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. There are no plans at present for the expansion of these operations.
