To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he expects to make an announcement regarding a new chairman of the Independent Broadcasting Authority.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make it his policy that no past or present member of the Conservative party will be appointed as the new chairman of the Independent Broadcasting Authority.

No. The appointment will be made on the basis of personal distinction, experience and ability, not of political affiliation.
