HC Deb 03 March 1988 vol 128 cc648-9W
Mr. Rost

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what is the outcome of the review conducted in 1987 of the geothermal hot dry rock project being conducted by the Camborne school of mines.

Mr. Michael Spicer

I have today announced a new phase of the hot dry rock programme to run from October 1988 and costing up to £8.15 million. The new programme will includeexperimental work on the existing reservoir al Rosemanowes quarry to help test the feasibility of techniques that would be required to create a commercial system in a new reservoir approximately 6 m deep; an initial design study for a 6km deep system in collaboration with interested industrial companies; supporting technical and economic studies.

Reports of the review are being published and I will arrange for copies to be placed in the Libraries of both Houses.
