Mr. Jack

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the level of British food exports over the past year.

Mr. Donald Thompson

In 1987, United Kingdom food exports reached a record level of £3,063 million. This is 14.8 per cent. higher than in 1986. Over the same period food imports increased by only 2.1 per cent. This indicates the success of Government policies in supporting the British food industry.
