§ Mr. Harry GreenwayTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what new sanctions for bad behaviour have been introduced into schools since the abolition of corporal punishment; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. RumboldNone. Corporal punishment was but one of several sanctions available to head teachers and governing bodies, who are responsible for disciplinary policy and practice within their individual schools. Her Majesty's inspectorate's report on good behaviour and discipline, published last year, gives schools guidance of best practice.
