HC Deb 03 March 1988 vol 128 c654W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will consider seeking to amend legislation to allow the provision of cheap bus fares for retired males between the ages of 60 and 65 years, along the lines of provision presently available for other pensioners.

Mr. David Mitchell

We have no plans to change the present arrangements which effectively link eligibility for concessionary travel for the elderly to state pension age. It is open to all transport operators to give additional concessions; British Rail operates a scheme on a commercial basis which provides cheap fares for the elderly of both sexes from the age of 60.
