To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people in the United Kingdom have been immunised against rabies for each year since 1980.

This information is not available in the form requested. The number of doses of rabies vaccine supplied through the Department for distribution in England and Wales was as follows:

These supplies will have included initial and booster doses for those groups considered to be at special risk, for example, veterinary and technical staff of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and employees of animal quarantine premises, as well as to travellers returning to this country who might have been in contact with rabid animals.
