Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will seek a meeting with the Forestry Commission to discuss the rent strike by keepers of the New Forest; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 29 February 1988]: The rent strike is a management problem which falls to be dealt with internally by the Forestry Commission.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what information he has on the average rent payable by and wage paid to keepers of the New Forest at the latest available date.

[holding answer 29 February 1988]: The average rent payable is £24.75 per week. The average gross weekly earnings of keepers are £177.31.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what information he has on the level of rent presently being sought by the Forestry Commission from the keepers of the New Forest.

[holding answer 29 February 1988]: The commission is seeking an average "fair rent" of £24.75 per week from the keepers.
